Gadija Khan is the daughter of a dressmaker, married to her High School sweetheart, and mother of two beautiful daughters. She is an emerging fashion designer and passionately believes that we carve the life we wish to live. Clothing is an embodiment of our self, our image, our hopes and our dreams. Her supportive family is the inspiration for her joyful, creative and expressive lifestyle.
At a young age, Gadija was inspired by her mother’s flare in her fashion business. As she watched her, she learnt to sew, understood design, and appreciated how best to work with clients. Her entrepreneurial spirit emerged during her Matric year at High School. She used her mother’s leftover fabric to make and sell 50 handbags for R30 each in just 2 months.
Gadija’s love of fashion led her from High School to the big world of retail clothing. She enjoyed working on the shop floor as an in-store fashion stylist. She was quickly promoted to Store Manager and then Textile Manager. Excited as she was by the fast pace of life, motherhood proved to be a greater pull.
Family time increasingly became more important to her. Gadija realised that she wanted more time for memories and milestones than being an employee could ever offer. She remembered the excitement of selling the handbags she made at High School and started to feel inspired to return the world of entrepreneurship and fashion. Self-employment and the flexibility to work when it suits give her the best of all worlds: motherhood and family time combined with owning a creative fashion design business. It has been a time of growth and abundance.
Throughout Gadija’s life, she has always been complimented on her handmade clothes and style. She appreciates how difficult and frustrating it is to find modest clothing that looks good, practical and comfortable. This inspires her designs. All designs are made with thought and consideration for women who want modest clothes to live in.
